The Sportsman was reopened 11th June 2010 by its current landlord Steve Butterworth and has grown from strength to strength. We are a family run pub where you will enjoy a warm welcome, great hospitality and good food, all of which can be enjoyed in front of a traditional log fire!
The Sportsman has strong ties with the local community and is home to the Whitworth Spartans Rugby League team.
The Sportsman has a pool team in the Rochdale League and also a Boules team. We will be starting a football team in the coming season (2011).
The Sportsman has darts, dominoes and crib on Thursday nights and a band on Saturday and sometimes Sunday too.

As you would expect from a good hostelry with our name, we show all live sports events.
The Sportsman has an undercover, heated smoking area at the rear.
